Klay Thompson reportedly headed to Heat after Mavericks buyout
The Dallas Mavericks said Friday they had agreed to a buyout with guard Klay Thompson, putting him on the free agent market [1]. ESPN reported shortly afterward that Thompson, 36, is expected to sign a two-year, $13 million contract with the Miami Heat, including a player option in the second season, once he clears waivers [1]. Thompson joined Dallas in 2024 and appeared in 141 games there, averaging 12.9 points [1]. The Heat roster also includes Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo [1][3]; the signing is unconfirmed until it is completed [1].
