Google Chat adds persistent, cross-device message drafts

Google announced on September 8, 2026 that Google Chat will automatically save unsent messages as persistent drafts [1]. The drafts sync across devices, so a message begun on one device can be completed or sent from another, including after Chat is closed or the device is restarted [1]. Unsent drafts appear in the conversation compose box and in the drafts shortcut [1].
