Houston native Regan Hutsell crowned 99th Miss America

Regan Hutsell, a Houston native who competed as the 89th Miss Texas, was crowned Miss America on Sunday at the 99th national competition in West Palm Beach, Fla. [1][2] The event followed preliminary rounds involving 52 delegates from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico [1]. According to the Miss America Organization, Hutsell is the fourth Miss Texas to take the national title in 105 years, and People Magazine reported she is the first Texan to win since Shirley Cothran in 1975 [1]. Before competing in pageants, Hutsell worked as a professional dancer, including as a Radio City Rockette and a ballerina with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, experiences tied to her Community Service Initiative [2].
