Gold near three-month high as Treasury weighs larger bond buybacks

Spot gold slipped 0.4% to $4,632.39 an ounce on Tuesday but stayed near its highest level since mid-May, helped by a weaker dollar and the Treasury's bond buyback plans, with gold up more than 15% this month [1]. Gold futures eased 0.3% to $4,686.20 [1]. Two senior Treasury officials said the department could draw on its nearly $1 trillion General Account to fund the buybacks, after it announced it would double purchases of off-the-run long-end securities from $2 billion to at least $4 billion [4]. Treasury yields were steady Tuesday, with the 10-year at 4.7021%, the 30-year at 5.2297% and the 2-year at 4.2421% [2].
