Houston man charged with murder after mother's body found in duffel bag

Arman Malik, 34, has been charged with murder and tampering with/fabricating physical evidence after his mother, Dyna Sorto De Malik, was found dead in a duffel bag at a home on Valley Knoll Drive in west Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office and court documents [1][2]. Deputies went to the house in the Windsong subdivision around 10 p.m. on Sept. 1 after family members called for a welfare check, saying she had not answered her door, phone or text messages for several days, and forced entry [4]. Court records state Malik allegedly struck the 73-year-old woman in the head with his hands and that her body was wrapped in bloody sheets and a rug inside a black duffel bag [2][3]. Malik was initially charged only in connection with the corpse and was reportedly found incoherent in a bed in the same home and hospitalized before the murder charge was added [3][4]; accounts of the exact charge names vary between reports [1][3].
