US to Ban Imports of Some Canadian Alcohol, Dairy and Motorcycles Sept. 29

The White House announced bans on a range of Canadian imports, effective Sept. 29, after Canadian retaliatory tariffs on US goods took effect [1][2]. Executive orders signed by President Donald Trump cover whey products and molasses, non-alcoholic beer, and alcoholic drinks including malt beer, wine, cider, whiskies, vodka and other spirits, plus larger-capacity motorcycles and mopeds [2]. The restrictions largely replace tariffs of 50%, and Trump said Canada was discriminating against the US [1][2]. Officials on both sides have said they want a trade deal, but no new talks have been scheduled since negotiations broke down in late August; Canadian trade minister Dominic LeBlanc commented on the latest US action [1].
