Oil tops $100 a barrel after Middle East attacks; US gas prices at Labor Day high
Brent crude moved above $100 a barrel for the first time in roughly six weeks following attacks on oil facilities and ships in the Middle East that raised concerns about an already strained supply chain [1]. A satellite image from Planet Labs PBC showed a Saudi Aramco refinery north of Abha, Saudi Arabia, shortly before smoke began rising from the site on Sept. 8, 2026 [1]. Separately, AAA reported the average price of regular gasoline was $4.14 a gallon heading into the Labor Day weekend, close to a dollar above the prior year and above the 2012 holiday record of $3.82, which the report attributed to the Iran war and refinery problems [2].
