Houston teen charged with murder in Heights-area shooting of driver

Houston police say 19-year-old Jhoan Gomez was walking on Cottage Street on Sept. 3 when he got into an altercation with the driver of a Honda Civic, identified as 30-year-old Dreliene Washington [1][3]. Washington, who was seated and unarmed, was shot several times shortly after 1 p.m. near North Main Street, and his car crashed and jumped the curb at Cottage and Archer streets [2]. Police said they located the Civic crashed into a curb when they arrived, and investigators used surveillance and Flock camera footage later that evening in the case [2][3]. Gomez was charged with murder on Saturday and is being held in the Harris County Jail with bond denied; court records indicate he did not personally know Washington [1][2].
